This paper analysis the landscape tradition in painted panoramas and its unfolding in interactive digital video installations, pointing to aspects that remain in this type of visual device from its origin to the present day, such as: illusion, immersion and interaction. It also questions possible causes of the absence of studies on these devices in art history and art criticism, despite its monumentality, the immense public attracted by these works and the complex technologies involved in its production.
