Minha Fantasma, Nuno Ramos, performanceAbstract
This essay examines the writing of the verbal and visual text Minha Fantasma, by the visual artist and writer Nuno Ramos. Created as a method of operationalizing a form of mourning, both the writing and the images produced in the material reveal a performance that, in attempting to (an)archive the intimate within the materiality of writing and safeguard memory, is constructed in fragments that register not only the images of a depressive subject but also the forces that traverse the body experiencing grief for another body that still breathes. Engaging with the theories of Freud and Barthes, the reading of Nuno Ramos’s text reveals a performative process of subjects who succumb to illness, time and death.
