The Fantastic Transposition of Mr. Fox’s Narrative Duality

The transposition from one media to another is a widely used resource between literature
and cinema. Through intermediality, this process is understood to involve content
reconfigurations rather than faithful adaptations. This paper analyzes the transposition of the children’s novel Fantastic Mr. Fox, by Roald Dahl (1970), into the homonymous feature film by Wes Anderson (2009), observing changes in meaning effects between the works. Based on Rajewsky (2012a, 2012b) and Ghirardi (2022), it is noted that the film expands the characters’ narrative. The levels of anthropomorphism and the imagetic system symbolically illustrate social tensions. While the novel follows a perspective of childhood innocence, the film presents duality by encompassing a metaphor for contemporary society.
