Abstract

In this article, Michaud discusses the thought of Joseph Beuys, which is associated with the romantic concepts of myth, ritual and the unshakeable belief in art as an instrument of Freedom, regeneration of self-consciousness, spiritual values and social restructuring. It marks the artist’s indignation at the post-war crisis of European civilization and the loss of German cultural unity and hegemony with the establishment of Nazism. According to Beuys, the artists must be involved in the reconstruction of the mythical homeland, which will be free of social and ideological conflicts, through political engagement, through the power of ideas and through actions strictly connected with German and European life and history.

Almerinda da Silva Lopes, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (UFES), Brasil

É lider dos Grupo de Estudos Pesquisas Teóricas em Arte e Teoria e História da Arte Moderna e Contemporânea da UFES. Possui graduação em Licenciatura Em Desenho e Plástica pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1972); Licenciatura em Pedagogia, com habilitações em ADMINISTRAÇÃO EDUCACIONAL e em Supervisão Escolar, pela Faculdade de Filosofia Ciências e Letras de Andradina (1980); Licenciatura Em Educação Artística pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1976), mestrado em Artes pela Universidade de São Paulo (1989) e doutorado em Comunicação e Semiótica pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo e Universidade de Paris I (doutorado sanduíche) (1997). Pós-doutorado pela Universidade dee Paris I (Sorbonne), 2002. Atualmente é professor titular da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, atuando na graduação e no mestrado em Artes. Tem experiência na área de Artes, com ênfase em História e Crítica da Arte, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: artes plásticas, pintura, escultura, fotografia, ensino das artes, história da arte e crítica dos séculos xx e xxi.
