If research in arts is a subject still under big discussion, it is even more so if that art is dance. This article focuses on the difficulties posed by the artistic practice-based research in dance. Especifically, the center of attention will be the problems that the final theses based on scenic dance practice must face. In general, they must be accompanied by an academic writing which has the function, as a theoretical framework, of justifying the artistic proposal. The current dichotomous treatment becomes in two autonomous productions (scenic practice, on one hand; writing about that practice, on the other). This sort of split generates, at the same time, a fracture in the form of knowledge production. The objective is to analyze the methodological conflicts originated from the moment when thesis based on practice need to be accepted as a legitimate mode of research. This text aims to fulfill a double function: on the one hand, rethink the place of artistic research referred to the specific field of dance and its relationship with academic forms, and on the other, visualize other possible ways in which the links between the scene and the page could be established.
