Obsession and vertigo:
an interfilmic analysis of Brian de Palma’s Obsession and Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo

This article is composed of excerpts from the dissertation defended by me to obtain the Master degree, whose proposal is to carry out an analytical investigation on the use of metalanguage in Cinema through intertextuality, seeking to show the importance of this narrative mechanism in the construction of mise en scène of filmmakers who made their first films from the 1960s onwards, in the so-called “post-modernity”. The cut takes place in the work of Brian De Palma, a director who takes Alfred Hitchcock's films as a reference. The present analysis focuses on the feature film Obsession (USA, 1976), with the aim of highlighting the intertextuality with the film Vertigo (USA, 1958).
