This study develops an analysis of Abril despedaçado (2001), film directed by Walter Salles and based on the eponymous albanian novel by Ismail Kadaré (1978), with the aim of 264264examining the process of transmutation of the narrative category of time in the process of cinematographic construction. In this sense, the dialogic comparison undertaken between literature and film adaptation is one of the many possibilities to substantiate the experience of cinema, expanding the viewer's horizons of interpretation to the polysemic scope of the literary. In addition to considering the complex universe of adaptation, its intricacies and sinuosities, the analytical approach is based on theoretical contributions about time in the novel and, essentially, in film criticism, to reflect on the interweavings of this narrative component in the orchestration of the audiovisual message.
