This paper discusses the introduction of curricular extension in the Dance Degree Course at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) and how extension projects can be formative in cultural production. The objective is to demonstrate that the projects allowed practical learning about cultural production, which is important in the training of artist-teachers. To write this article, autoethnography was used, based on notes from the teacher's notebook and the students' field diary. It is concluded that the practice of producing a course, workshop or extension event allows empirical training in this area. However, the importance of in-depth study is emphasized, with activities that also allow students to gain theoretical training and format a cultural project.
