Abstract

the present article seeks to provide a brief overview of the musical and political exchanges between Angola and Brazil. It also aims to analyze in a synthetic way the discourses on the African matrices of Brazilian music expressed by black and non-black musicians and intellectuals between the 1970s and 1980s. These discourses influenced the realization of the Kalunga Project: when an entourage of dozens of Brazilian musicians toured Angola during the civil war in the year 1980. Another intention is to examine the influence of the Brazilian samba on the Angolan semba and what senses can be extracted from these cultural exchanges about the political agency of the Angolan musicians.
