Abstract

The present work starts from the historical roots of the north fluminense coast after the arrival of the portuguese until today, highlighting the city of Macaé. It evokes modern development and the territory, aiming to analyze the macaense cultural identity, altered by the migratory flow. In view of this, it carries out a bibliographic review on the territory used by Milton Santos, as well as the places and not places of Marc Augé, applying them in the understanding of the current Macanese society and its specificities. Therefore, it presents quantitative data on social formation and cultural aspects of the city's society to support the argument that individuals involved in the continued migratory flow (commuting and precarious work) may, in the imaginary, have this city as a non place.
