Abstract

The Mariana Music Museum was founded in the 1970s, by archbishop Dom Oscar de Oliveira, in the city of Mariana, Minas Gerais. From its birth in the Ecclesiastical Archive to its organization in its own building with exhibition rooms and the use of the Internet to preserve and make part of its collection available, in each occupied space the Museum was resignified. Thinking about the concepts of “spaces of remembrance”, by Aleida Assmann, and the definition of space as “practiced place” given by Michel de Certeau, we intend to demonstrate how the Mariana Music Museum pluralized its spaces, in order to continue a cultural memory project of the Archdiocesis of Mariana from the 1970s to the present day. To this end, sources such as the Museum's website and its Facebook page were analyzed, in addition to the newspaper “O Arquidiocesano”, whose main editor was the founder of the Museum of Music.
