Educational Institutions and Social Actions from the perspective of Fr. Aloysio Jacobi
Abstract
In this article, we analyze the educational and social contributions made by the German priest Aloysio Jacobi between the 1940s and 1970s, a period when the municipalities of the Mesoregion Centro-Ocidental do Paraná, such as Campo Mourão, Peabiru, and Engenheiro Beltrão, were in the process of formation. The empirical corpus of the research consists of archival books, minutes, circulars, official documents, parish archives, and newspapers from that time. Using a biographical approach, we investigate how Father Aloysio, in addition to performing his religious duties in “the care of souls”, contributed to the establishment of educational institutions and the development of social actions in the region. The study highlights the often contentious relationship between Church and State, demonstrating how the Catholic Church played a central role in education and in providing support to local communities. The analysis aims to contribute to understanding the dynamics between religion, education, and political power in the formation of these communities, emphasizing the impact of these initiatives on the region's social development.
