Visual culture and memory in local history teaching:  educative project in Uberlândia (2023-2024)

Abstract

The article proposes a case study based on the concept of visual culture of the project “The social construction of the memory of Uberlândia as seen through images”, developed during the compulsory subjects Interdisciplinary Projects II and III (PROINTER II and III) of the History degree at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU). This project was carried out both theoretically and practically, with the practical part taking place at Hilda Leão Carneiro, Municipal Civic-Military School, also in the city of Uberlândia (MG), with 9th grade D students. The project was built during the last months of 2023 and the first months of 2024. In addition, this activity consisted of working together with the students on understanding the iconographic and museological representations of the past and present of the city where they live in.
