Abstract

In this article we will try to demonstrate the way in which Roman imperialism was used and legitimized by the dominant ideology to justify the way in which the Roman elites related to the other peoples of the Ancient Mediterranean. Initially, we will present what ideology and imperialism were and how they were linked, and then we will demonstrate how the elites used these categories to support their relationship of domination over Egypt and Cappadocia in the 1st century B.C.E., with financial relations as one of their tools in building this relationship between them and Rome.
