Abstract

Abstract: This work discusses educational projects elaborated in Portugal during the 19th century and which intended to be implemented in the African colonies. These projects were elaborated by four influential intellectuals of the period: Marquês de Sá da Bandeira, Antônio Francisco Nogueira, Andrade Corvo and Oliveira Martins. The mark of these authors discourse is racism, which is mobilized in a different way, aiming to achieve different objectives, this contributes to that the educational projects were significantly different in each author and sometimes even competitors. This work reaches the conclusion that the failure of the abolitionist project of Sá da Bandeira contributes to projects with more deterministic racial visions to arise and gain space in Portuguese politics.
