Abstract

This article aims to present a brief historical interpretation of the social representations formulated around labor relations during the process of redemocratization in Brazil. The analyzes of this proposal were developed through a comprehensive investigation carried out in the newspaper Diário Catarinense. It is understood that the discursive practices that circulated in the journal had relevance in terms of accommodating conflicts and reaffirming the projections made by business entities and figures that were part of the Santa Catarina government, especially with regard to the interest in delimiting work relationships to cultural patterns of the so-called “new capitalism”. In an attempt to support the argument presented, the coverage of the media will be accentuated during the debates held in the subcommittee on workers' rights of the National Constituent Assembly.
