Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study the concept of revolutionary nationalism – a fundamental concept in the political thought adopted by the Black Panther Party (1966 - 1982) – and the mechanisms and strategies mobilized by the party's militants to mediate its meaning through the print media. In this sense, publications of the newspaper The Black Panther between the years of 1967 and 1970 were collected as sources. The analysis of the sources revealed the understanding that the panthers had about the role of the intellectual and the centrality that they granted to the revolutionary political formation, through school education and art. With this in mind, the reflections in the article point to the relevance of mediation practices for the party, an aspect synthesized in the motto of Sam Napier, the newspaper's first editor in chief, wich stated the necessity to “circulate to educate”.
