“Pernambuco terá Comissão da Memória e Verdade”: debates sobre a ditadura civil-militar a partir da Comissão D. Helder Camara (2011-2018)

Abstract

In this article, we analyze part of the debates about the memory of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985) in Pernambuco, based on the work developed by the Dom Hélder Camara State Commission for Memory and Truth. We understand the basic pillars of this commission to be: the particularity of the political moment in the State, the organizers of the report and their professional training.  As sources, we used interviews carried out with members of the commission, the report produced by the body and the Official Gazette of the State of Pernambuco.  From the material, we analyze how historical culture was established and the path taken until the commission's final considerations.  In this sense, we consider that efforts were made to insert institutional violence in the countryside at the center of the debate as a basic element of what we propose as the historical culture about the dictatorship in Pernambuco.
