Memórias sobre o Boi da Manta de Pedro Leopoldo (MG): uma análise da festa popular através da História Oral e dos periódicos

Abstract

This research focused on analysing the popular festival of Boi da Manta, held annually in the city of Pedro Leopoldo, located in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. To explore the extent to which the existence of a festival older than the city itself impacts the social, cultural, and political life of its residents, we drew on oral accounts and local newspapers, employing the methodology of Oral History and periodical analysis. Thus, we identified the dialectical and circular relationship between the memories of the revellers and journalistic discourse. Through this investigative work, we concluded that the identity of Pedro Leopoldo is intrinsically linked to the preservation of festive tradition, which permeates the dynamics of the world of work and familial generational relationships.
