Abstract

The book Formação docente em língua inglesa: diferentes perspectivas brings together chapters that deal with teacher education experiences from different contexts. Its editors: Ana Karina de Oliveira Nascimento and Vanderlei José Zacchi are PhDs in Letters (Linguistic and Literary Studies in English) from the University of São Paulo (USP), and professors at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), where they work in undergraduate and graduate Letters course. The chapters in the collection are authored by teachers participating in the project Continuing Education of Teachers of English as an Additional Language. The project consisted of an initiative for continuing teacher education, which did not materialize, by the Ministry of Education (MEC), with a view to critically instrumentalizing English Language (LI) teachers in basic education so that they would train proficient and active students in the scenario of Soccer World Cup (2014) and the Olympics (2016) in Brazil. Therefore, when observing the impossibility of its implementation, the proposal was adapted locally in partnership with researchers from Brazilian universities. The project was part of the activities of the Research Group Literacies in English: language, literature, and culture at UFS, which, in turn, is part of the National Literacy Project: Language, Culture, Education and Technology, coordinated by professors Walkyria Monte Mór and Lynn Mario Trindade Menezes de Souza, both from USP.
