Echoes of Rememory in Beloved and Tituba
Weaving Lines between Toni Morrison and Maryse Condé

Toni Morrison and Maryse Condé are women who write the diaspora and inscribe it in narratives that mobilize not only a plethora of signs and iconography of the Black imaginary, but also literary creative resources that establish dialogues. This is the way in which the narratives of diasporic women gather, through the weaving of stories that mimics the collection of memories and the invention of rememories (Morrison, 2020). This study focuses on the novels Beloved (Morrison, 1987) and I, Tituba, Black witch of Salem (Condé, 1986), observing the ways in which memory is reordered in the fictional text, in order to transform into rememory. Understanding and interpreting the anti-essentialist nature of the diaspora (Gilroy, 2020), we notice the echoes of rememory reverberating in the texts in various ways, which vibrate, (re)count, and (re)create an imaginary of belonging.
