Given the importance of correct food labeling to ensure food safety for consumers, this studyhe aimed to evaluate the labeling of products with the sales denomination: Mel and the adequacy of the information to the current legislation. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in 18 establishments of Araçuaí-MG, city. Achecklist was prepared with the mandatory information contained in the labels of commercialized honeys.Data obtained were compared with legislation on general and specific labeling. Among the eight brands found, informations such as: list of ingredients, net content, name and corporate name, address of the establishment and the importer, SIF and MAPA SIF/DIPOAregistration, category of the establishment, CNPJ, conservation and product composition, brand, batch number, nutritional information and alert restrictions ofconsumption by children under 1 year of age, were present on 63% of the labels. The identification of botanical origin, date of manufacture, expiration date, is in accordance with 88% of the labels and only 75% contained instructions for the preparation and use of the product. Therefore, this work demonstrates for beekeepers, producers and consumers the importance of complying with the legislation on labeling food products such as honey, thus avoiding any type of sanction or risks to public health.
