Abstract

Analytical study about structural aspects of Fantasia Sul América for solo clarinet by Claudio Franco de Sá Santoro (1919-1989). It proposes a formal segmentation based on motivic analysis in order to show its constituent elements. It raises investigative questions and provides subsidies that may help players in interpretative choices. It aims at contributing to deepen general knowledge in instrumental musical performance, especially of Brazilian contemporary works.

    Doctoral student and Master in Music Performance (Clarinet) at the Federal University of Bahia, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Pedro Robatto (2012); graduated cum laude in music from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2008); graduated from the Professionalizing Center of Musical Creativity of Recife (2002) and the Pernambuco Conservatory of Music (2002). As a full member of the Recife Symphony Orchestra since 2003, he has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Sivuca, Dominguinhos, Quinteto Violado, Spok, and Edu Lobo. He has performed as guest musician with the Virtuosi Festival Orchestra (PE) and the Symphony Orchestra of Bahia, besides developing chamber activities in various formations. In 2010 he organized and led the Quinteto Leão do Norte to participate in the 13th edition of the Sonora Brasil Project, promoted by the National Department of SESC, thus performing a tour consisting of 83 concerts, covering all regions of the country and presenting the work of Claudio Santoro and Guerra-Peixe, including the Fantasia Sul América for solo clarinet.

    He has a degree in Composition from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1986), a degree in Conducting from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1987), a master's degree in Music from Universidade Federal University of Bahia (1993), and PhD in Music from the Federal University of Bahia (2003). He is currently an adjunct professor at the Federal University of Bahia. He has published articles on music analysis and composition with a focus on post-tonal theory. He coordinates a research group that produces didactic material for theoretical courses covering harmony, counterpoint, instrumentation and orchestration, analysis and composition. He has experience in the Arts, with emphasis on Music Composition, working mainly on the following topics: music analysis, post-tonal theory, Brazilian music, music composition, music performance, computer and hypermedia music, and algorithmic composition.
