Abstract

This paper intends to identify similarities between concepts of agudeza and stravaganza, derived respectively from poetics and music of seventeenth century, and to show how they are important to avoid anachronisms in interpretation of works from this period.

  • Thiago César Viana Lopes Saltarelli, Federal University of Minas Gerais

    Thiago Saltarelli holds a degree in Language Studies (Portuguese Teaching) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Literary Theory at the same institution. He has experience in the field of Literature, with an emphasis on medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque literature, and more recently in Romance Philology and Historical Linguistics. He has been a violinist in the Jovem Sesiminas Chamber Orchestra for ten years and was also a member of the Young Orchestra of the Palácio das Artes. He conducts research in the field of Music and its interface with Literature, primarily focusing on Baroque music and literature, as well as medieval and Renaissance music and its Brazilian oral tradition, including research on Brazilian rabecas. Since 2006, he has been a member of a research group on the Cantigas de Santa Maria by Alfonso X, the Wise, whose project, titled “Problems of Iberian Medieval Culture,” is developed by the Graduate Program in Language Studies at PUC Minas and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Ângela Vaz Leão.
