Abstract

Comments about the article “Universalism and nationalism in music” (1943) by Ernst Krenek, presented in a Spanish translation in this issue of Per Musi, which aims at complementing this critical view about the problematics of Latin America as a whole.

  • Graciela Paraskevaídis

    Graciela Paraskevaídis, composer, musicologist, and Uruguayan-Argentinian professor, studied music with Roberto García Morillo, Gerardo Gandini, Iannis Xenakis, and Wolfgang Fortner in Buenos Aires and Freiburg, Germany, receiving various international awards and grants. She taught at the Universidad de la República in Montevideo from 1985 to 1992. She specializes in research related to 20th-century Latin American music, having published the books La obra sinfónica de Eduardo Fabini (1992) and Luis Campodónico, compositor (1999), as well as articles in journals such as Pauta (Mexico), MusikTexte (Germany), Tribuna Musical (Buenos Aires), La del Taller (Montevideo), and World New Music Magazine (Cologne). She is actively involved in composition, particularly chamber music, choral, vocal, piano, and stage music, having presented her works in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. She organized the Latin American Contemporary Music Courses (CLAMC). She was co-editor of World New Music Magazine, the annual book of ISCM (1990-1999), and a contributor to the Dictionnaire Komponisten der Gegenwart since 1992. Along with Max Nyffeler, she created the online journal Latinoamérica Música in 2004, of which she is the editor.
