Abstract

Following new trends in pedagogy and music education and offering works with an exciting variety of procedures and musical idioms, the teaching piano repertoire has been expanded in the twentiethcentury. Although this repertoire presents most of the elements already found in preceding periods, there has been a substantial expansion of timbre and rhythmic elements. This essay discusses the teaching possibilities of this repertoire for basic and intermediate level students.
