Abstract

Study on the fields of Transpersonal Psychology, systemic approach of human being and Ken Wilber's Integral Psychology, on the altered states of consciousness and its influence on musical performance. It describes the process of how some integrative music practices and teachinhg can facilitate some superior states of consciounsness, and how it can improve performance quality. Also, it describes possibilities of personal development and self knowledge through meaningful music experiences.

Author Biography

  • Abel Moraes, Federal University of Minas Gerais

    holds a degree in Cello and a specialization in Music Education from the School of Music at UFMG. In 1996, he completed a Master's degree at Thames Valley University in London. He is a researcher and scholar of the psychology of instrumental teaching, as well as the therapeutic possibilities of music teaching and practice. He has completed courses in transpersonal psychology, music therapy, brief systemic therapy, art therapy, psychodrama, and therapeutic resources for children and adolescents (CICLOCEAP in Belo Horizonte). He is the coordinator of the project for the implementation of group instrumental teaching, as well as a cello and music aesthetics professor at the  School of Music at UEMG. A chamber musician, he performs as a guest cellist with various Brazilian orchestras and also as a professor and lecturer at various seminars and festivals in Minas Gerais and other states.
