Abstract

The aim of this article is to exemplify how the information obtained through research and analysis can enhance the performance of a musical work. Taking this objective as our starting point, we discuss the differences between the work of the composer and the performer, the characteristics of the musical notation and its reading process, as well as the differences between interpretation and critical performance. We focus our article on the importance of the musical analysis and research to raise investigative questions which can help the musical interpretation and performance.

Author Biography

  • Leonardo Loureiro Winter, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul

    Leonardo L. Winter holds a Doctorate in Musical Performance (UFBA) and serves as an Assistant Professor of flute and coordinator of the course "Interpretative Techniques of Chamber Music" at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). A winner of several competitions, he has performed as a soloist with the orchestras of Teatro São Pedro, Unisinos, the Chamber Orchestra of Blumenau, OSPA, OSUFBA, and the Baroque Orchestra in Bahia. As a chamber musician, he has given recitals in Brazil, Buenos Aires, and Switzerland. A member of the Porto Alegre Woodwind Trio (flute, clarinet, and bassoon) and the Duo Coraggio (flute and clarinet), he has dedicated himself to chamber music repertoire. He has participated in various masterclasses with renowned teachers such as Emmanuel Pahud, Félix Renggli, Auréle Nicolet, Peter-Lukas Graf, and Michael Faust. A member of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (OSPA) since 1990, he has also performed as a guest musician with various orchestras.
