This article aims to report an extension action carried out in the field of mental health with fourth and fifth grade students from a state school in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It seeks to highlight the formative aspects of this action for medical students, as well as to encourage and help other researchers to work with similar demands in schools. In 2019, a group of medical students from the Federal University of Uberlândia visited a basic education institution aiming at health promotion. The Arch of Maguerez was used to systematize the action, concluding on the need to instill, in students, self-esteem and self-care. There were then two dynamics based on the concepts of Apresentação à Mineira and Teatro do Oprimido, by Augusto Boal, in addition to conversation circles about support networks. The children actively participated and demonstrated the ability to understand and reflect. This action proved to be relevant for the training of undergraduates, who realized the importance of an adequate approach to infants in promoting their health.
