Abstract

The present paper aims to explore the theoretical questions implied on Sleeping by the Mississippi, a photographic book by Alec Soth. It aims to locate these images and think the concepts involved in them, between the photographic tradition of the instant and photojournalism, and a formalism based on a mere aestheticism of the deadpan. These images question both of them and extract their potency from this breach: a place of force, which proposes an experience of questioning to the espectator.
