The Tiro de Laço as Intangible Heritage of Rio Grande do Sul

a field of conflicts

Authors

Abstract

The article aims to understand the process of patrimonialization of Tiro de Laço in Rio Grande do Sul and the clash that occurs in this process about its characterization as culture and sport. This discussion brings the different positions proposed by the Traditionalist Gaucho Movement (MTG) and by the Federação Gaúcha de Laço (Federação or FGL) that defend, respectively, the loop as culture and as sport. The text is the result of qualitative research that, methodologically, was based on the conduct of interviews and analysis of MTG and FGL regulations. The text considers that the dispute of meanings that involves the Shooting of Loop as cultural patrimony requires to conceive that the patrimony is also a political construction and should not be treated as a neutral field.
