Abstract

This research seeks to analyze the critical awareness of part of the contemporary Brazilian rap movement regarding the State's participation in the genocide of black people based on four songs whose authors stand out in the national music scene. To do this, we will examine how the themes covered in rap songs were reformulated, how this affects Brazilian collective social thought and how contemporary Brazilian rap explains the State and its mechanisms of oppression. The methodology adopted is based on the use of the descriptive research method associated with a qualitative approach in order to provide a reflection on the contemporary black genocide based on a bibliographical review based on an articulation between the analysis of the lyrics of the selected songs and the context social, racial and political explained by “Rap Consciência” (1990 and 2019). Therefore, it was concluded that this musical genre must be recognized for its role as one of the new social agents in the anti-racist struggle.
