Orpheus, a marvelous figure in baroque opera
Keywords:
Cantata, Marvelous, Baroque music, Orpheus, OperaAbstract
The character of Orpheus is present in the greatest lyrical works from the beginning to the end of the Baroque period (Peri, Caccini, Monteverdi, Gluck). He also appears in operas (Rossi, Charpentier, L. de Lully), ballets (J.B. Lully) or cantatas (Rameau) in which the various modalities of the wonderful Baroque music are expressed through this polymorphous myth. Orpheus can also be seen as a metaphor for the synthesis of the arts, proper to opera.
