Inthisarticle, which derives from mydoctoraldissertationContemporary PianoRepertoire: APerformer’s Guideto ThreePiecesby Stockhausen, Berio andCarter, I write about myexperience of learning and performing Klavierstück IX by Karlheinz Stockhausen. I discuss here the technical problems that I found, as well as the strategies that I made use in order to overcome those difficulties. I also bring some analytical and historical questions about the work and the composer that I find important for a rigorousperformance of this piano piece.
