Um resgate histórico e filosófico dos estudos de Stephen Gray

O século XVIII valoriza a experimentação na pesquisa científica. Os estudos de Stephen Gray exemplificam a relação existente entre as convicções teóricas do pesquisador e a experimentação que desenvolve. Nessa perspectiva, explicitam as diferentes funções que podem ter o experimento na atividade científica e a pluralidade metodológica existente nesse processo. Contextualiza-se, nesse artigo, o caminho histórico de algumas descobertas realizadas por esse estudioso, pouco conhecido na literatura nacional, como a conceitualização dos corpos isolantes e condutores e a condução elétrica. Ressalta-se, ainda, a importância de se analisar o contexto da descoberta no âmbito de um ensino não apenas de ciência, mas sobre a ciência.
