The present study aims to build a corpus with implicit causality bias verbs, to be used later in the most diverse types of work, based on constraint-based models. Implicit Causality is a semantic property that is present in some verbs that tend to refer to the cause of a certain event (Goikoetxea, Acha and Pascual, 2008). In the sentence “Maria admired João”, for example, “admired” is an implicit causality bias verb, because it points to the cause of admiration, “João”, to the detriment of “Maria”. Thus, from an offline sentence completion experiment, we tested the IC bias of 80 verbs in brasilian portuguese (40 with SN1 bias and 40 with SN2 bias), which are divided into four categories according to their taxonomy: Agent-Patient (AP), Agent-Evocator (AE), Stimulus-Experiencer (SE) and Experiencer-Stimulus (ES). Furthermore, we verified whether the gender of the research participant influenced the establishment of coreference (Ferstl, Garnham and Manouilidou, 2011), as well as the grammatical gender of the sentence participants, considering that men are perceived as more casual than women (LaFrance, Brownell and Hahn (1997). Our results confirm the causality bias of verbs: for AP and SE, there was a preference for assigning the cause to SN1, while in AE and ES, there is a tendency to assign the cause to SN2. However, we didn’t find evidence of a relationship between the participant’s gender and IC bias.
