Objective: to identify violence practiced by intimate partner violence to women with depression. Method: qualitative research conducted from January to April 2017 with 29 women who had depression and were followed up at a Center for Comprehensive Health Care (Centro de Atenção Integral à Saúde - CAIS) in João Pessoa, Paraíba. Data were collected through interviews, using a semi-structured
script. The speeches were processed by the IRAMUTEQ software and analyzed using the content analysis technique. Results: among the participants, 29 reported
a history of violence, with most of the aggressions being committed by intimate partners. The analysis of the speeches allowed the subdivision of the content in
three thematic groups: types of violence suffered, denunciation of the aggressions and lack of family support. Conclusion: there was a close relationship between
violence perpetrated by an intimate partner and the diagnosis of depression, with harmful consequences for women and their family relationships.
