Nursing education and scheler's utility values concept

This article is based on Max Scheler's Theory of Values and its objective is to understand the utility value imbued on the act of instructing of a nurse educator and to discuss it in the light of Scheler's postulations: nursing holds a set of values that forms the basis for the elaboration of a scale of values. The qualitative methodology was used with a phenomenological approach. The participants were seven nurses of three higher education institutions located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The research was conducted from August 2007 to June 2008. Data were collected through interviews and the utility value that emerged from the nurse educator's discourse derived from the act of instructing. The results indicated that it was through the process of education that the nurse educator presented to the student the utility values concept acknowledging it as the nursing care praxis instituting factorDownloads
