Abstract

Hospital laundries are very important in the control of hospital infection, since dirty or contaminated linen may become a channel disseminating microbes. They may be a source of contamination for the laundry workers, where strict control measures must be taken for biosecurity. A review of the literature from 1995 to 2003 on hospital laundries was carried out in order to describe which aggressive agents are present in this sector and which may contribute to worker illness. Studies have shown that hospital laundries are responsible in part for work accidents, second only to nursing posts. It is understood that the main requirement to prevent occupational diseases and work accidents is the awareness of administration and workers about the use of biosecurity norms.
