Abstract

Tyranny reveals itself as a relevant issue that affects the most diverse debates of political and social construction. In this case, it is underlined how the representations of tyranny and the archetype of tyrants have varied over the centuries, using the most varied supports for their exposition. In this sense, there is a relation of cinematographic productions regarding the approach to this theme - expanding the object of analysis and opening different readings. In this light, the present text turns to this dimension of filmography in order to delimit the representation of the tyrant in the Shakespearean work Richard III and in its readaptation for the cinema - highlighting how the construction of the tyrant can take place through the filmic works. With this, the objective is to understand to what extent audiovisual productions can be elements governed by a historicity and in what way they contribute to the representational construction. In an analytical effort, it is expected to better penetrate the universe of filmic narratives, tracing a link between history, Shakespearean production and the possible relationships between politics, cinema and history
