Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) and algorithms have become increasingly present in our lives, impacting our social relationships, democratic life, and consequently, educational contexts. In this sense, this work presents an overview of how research on GAI, more specifically in the field of Letters/Languages, has developed in the Brazilian and Singaporean contexts. First, we point out how GAI has been incorporated into the Brazilian scenario in the field of Letters, mapping research collected from the virtual databases of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Second, we present contributions on how the use of GAI has occurred in the Singaporean context. Regarding the Brazilian context, the results indicate an effort in initial works with different perspectives and themes, but with gaps in the focus on the use of AI with students and the mobilization of discussions and results on Literacy, Language Education, Semiotics, Assessment, among other aspects. Regarding research in Singapore, AI in education is represented by the publications and projects from the National Institute of Education through the AI@NIE initiative. Themes emerging from this body of work point to a solid foundation, with opportunities to deepen impact through longitudinal research, broader disciplinary engagement, strengthened teacher professional learning, and further explorations into multimodal learning.
