Abstract

This paper presents an intersemiotic approach to Lorenzo Fernandez’s art song A Saudade Op. 11. It verifies the articulations that can be established between the literary and musical languages of the song and reveals images brought up by the poetry, the music and, finally by the poetic-musical text. One of the analytical tools used was the Compared Arts Analysis System, developed by Sandra Loureiro de Freitas Reis. This system uses different paradigms or “modes”, deduced from phenomena which are common to several artistic languages.

  • Mônica Pedrosa de Pádua, Federal University of Minas Gerais

    Mônica Pedrosa de Pádua is an Assistant Professor of Singing at the School of Music of UFMG. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Singing from this school and obtained her Master's degree in Singing from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. She is currently a doctoral student in Comparative Literature at the Faculty of Letters of UFMG. She is a member of the Research Group "Rescue of Brazilian Song."

  • Margarida M. Borghoff, Federal University of Minas Gerais

    Margarida Borghoff is an Associate Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the School of Music of UFMG. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Piano and Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg i. Breisgau, and her Master's and Doctorate in Song Accompaniment (Liedgestaltung) at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, Germany. She is the coordinator of the Research Group "Rescue of Brazilian Song."
