Interview with the Brazilian baroque violinist Luis Otávio Santos

The Baroque violinist Luis Otávio Santos is a native of Juiz de Fora (MG), Brazil. In 1990, he entered the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands), where he studied Baroque violin with Sigiswald Kuijken and harpsichord with Jacques Ogg. In 1996, he received the institution’s highest degree, the "Solist Diploma." Since 1992, he has been a member of La Petite Bande and has also performed with other ensembles such as Ricercar Consort, Le Concert Français, and De Nederlandse Bachvereniging. He has worked under the direction of renowned artists such as Sigiswald Kuijken, Phillipe Pierlot, and Gustav Leonhardt. Since 1998, he has been a professor of Baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Belgium). He regularly teaches Baroque violin at various festivals, including the Stage de Musique Baroque de Barbastre (France), the Festival de Música de Brasília, the Oficina de Música de Curitiba, and the International Festival of Brazilian Colonial Music and Early Music (Juiz de Fora, MG). This interview was conducted at the Sérgio Magnani Hall of the Fundação de Educação Artística (Belo Horizonte, MG) on July 29, 2003.
