Abstract

During the 1930s, Brazilian Popular Music was strongly influenced by tangos, blues, jazz bands and musicals. During that period, a new type of popular music marked by hibridisms and with urban features appears in Brazil, through technical and stylistic innovations, including: more chromatic harmony, orchestration and new instrumental combinations. By identifying rhythmic, melodic, harmonic and structural aspects of Feitio de oração (the first composition by Noel Rosa and Vadico), the purpose of this work is to verify how much Vadico contributed for the creation of new aesthetical patterns in Brazilian Popular Music.
