Abstract

This article presents an analysis of a survey answered by classical guitar teachers of Brazilian public universities, as far as the technique and repertoire used at these institutions. Departing from a broad participation (95.4% of the universities offering a degree in classical guitar), it was possible to draw a map of classical guitar teaching in Brazil. The results may raise questions about the pedagogy and the profile of the guitar alumni.

Author Biographies

Fabio Scarduelli, University of Paraná (Brazil)

Fabio Scarduelli - Guitarist, teacher and researcher; PhD and post-doctorate in Music from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He graduated from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná and taught at institutions such as the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and UNICAMP. His guitar teachers were Mário da Silva, Luiz Cláudio Ferreira and Henrique Pinto. He has performed in recitals in several Brazilian states, as soloist and chamber musician. His students have stood out in concerts and national and international competitions. He has participated as a lecturer and performer in events such as the EMBAP Academic Guitar Symposium, in Curitiba-PR, the IX International Guitar Seminar Vital Medeiros, in Suzano - SP, the I Encontro de Educadores em Música de USP - Ribeirão Preto, among others. He is currently an adjunct professor at the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná (UNESPAR) and collaborating professor of the Graduate Program in Music at UNICAMP.

Carlos Fernando Fiorini

Carlos Fernando Fiorini - Doctor in Music (Conducting) and Master in Arts (Music) from UNICAMP, Carlos Fiorini graduated in Conducting and Composition from the same institution. Since 1998 he has been a Professor of Conducting at the Music Department of UNICAMP, where he is currently Coordinator of Graduate Studies. He worked as Assistant Conductor of the Symphonic Orchestras of the State University of Londrina, Sorocaba and Bragança Paulista. In 2000 and 2001 he acted as Conductor and Musical Director of the "Aldo Baldin" Festival in Florianópolis, and of opera productions by Cia. Ópera São Paulo. From 2005 to 2008 he was Assistant Conductor and Principal Conductor of the Campinas Symphony Orchestra. In 1996 he created the Camerata Anima Antiqua, a group dedicated to Renaissance music, of which he is still its Artistic Director. In 2009 he created at the Institute of Arts at UNICAMP an Internal Research Center dedicated to choral and orchestral conducting called "Regency - Art and Technique", which includes the Choir of the Music Department and the Camerata Anima Antiqua.
