Abstract

A phemomenological approach of the Three Pieces for viola and piano by Brazilian composer César Guerra-Peixe, seeking tounderstand the musicalphenomenonthrough the perception of the listener. Theresearch hadtwo steps: a musicalanalysisbasedon the phenomenologicalapproach and a phenomenologicalanalysisof two recordingsof the same piece, comparing them with the former analysis. With this comparison, it was made evident that elements observed in the analysis are also present in the interpretation of the performers. The methodologyused wasbasedonthestudiesabout phenomenologyapplied to musicby Thomas Clifton, especially his concept of the essences of the musical phenomenon: time, space and feeling. The results obtained with this
researchwere a greaterapproximation and understandingof the essenceof the musicalphenomenon and anew possibility of conceiving the musical phenomenon.
