Abstract

Professional education is a very important strategic element for the construction of citizenship and for the fortification of the bases of professional nursing regarding the new demands of the profession. It is a qualitative study that aims at carrying out an Integrative Literature Review of researches developed from 1998 to 2008 on Professional Nursing Education, identifying and discussing directions for the practice. The selected publications evidenced three main themes: Professional education as a necessity; Professional Education as a challenge; Directions for professional nursing education. The publications indicate that nursing experience the demands of professional transformation. However, there are confrontations related to the integration between theory and practice through the association of science, practical skills and empirical experiences. In this context, education becomes a daily and revolutionizing practice of the professional performance.
