Abstract

This was an exploratory study with a qualitative approach that aimed to identify the knowledge of nurses on ileostomy of Family Health Teams (FHT) of the Health District of Uberaba that described the perception of nurses on the nursing care with definitive stoma patient. After approval from the Research Ethics Committee, data were collected with 16 nurses, through semi-structured interviews. Thematic content analysis proposed by Bardin was used. Most were female (93.75%), single (56.25%), with 1 to 5 years of study in nursing and had worked in the FHT 1-5 years. The age range was 25 to 45 years. In the data analysis revealed three categories: proper knowledge, inadequate or absent in relation to its possible complications ileostomy care and approach to patients with definitive stoma. One must consider that from the knowledge received by nurses in undergraduate and /or professional practice, enables the development of actions aimed at efforts to improve the quality of life of these patients, as well as empowering professionals assistance to perform actions based on scientific knowledge, against the backdrop of the specialized assistance and systematized.
