Abstract

The present study aimed at investigating the effect of stimulus deprivation (aural, visual and kinesthetic) in the sensorial feedback during the initial approach to piano pieces by students belonging to different academic levels. The results revealed the potential effect of the academic level on the time spent in practice for conditions A, C and D, as well as in the musical understanding and in the quality of attained performance takes (products), for conditions A and B. In terms of strategies and performances, data from conditions C and D suggested the performance under such conditions seem to depend on the cumulative competences of the student rather on the academic level.

    Michele Rosita Mantovani, born in Bauru-SP (Brazil), holds a PhD in Music (Interpretive Practices-Piano/2018) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS/Brazil), with support from CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), under the guidance of Dr. Regina Antunes Teixeira dos Santos, artistic guidance of Dr. Cristina Capparelli Gerling, and with a sandwich internship at the University of Aveiro, guided by Dr. Helena Paula Marinho (PDSE/CAPES). Master in Music (Interpretive Practices-Piano/2014) by UFRGS/Brazil, with support from CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), under the guidance of Dr. Regina Antunes Teixeira dos Santos, artistic guidance by Dr. Cristina Capparelli Gerling. Bachelor of Music (Piano/2010) at Universidade do Sagrado Coração (USC), under the supervision of Dr. Rosa Tolón. Performed as soloist of S. Prokofiev's Concerto op.10 n.1 with the Botucatu Symphony Orchestra (SP), conducted by Marcos Virmond. He has participated in master classes with national and international pianists such as Flávio Varani, David Witten, Paolo Gualdi, Michael Gurt, John Rink, Eduardo Monteiro, Gigla Kastarava and Ney Fialkow. He has participated in piano competitions in Brazil (Art Livre, Bauru-Atlanta) and Chile (Claudio Arrau), Music Festivals (among them: 46th Winter Festival of Campos do Jordão-2015; International Music Festival in the Pampa - FIMP 2014). He has given solo and chamber music recitals in different cities of the states of São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul, and in Aveiro, Portugal.     Regina Antunes Teixeira dos Santos, Bachelor of Music, Piano (UFRGS), obtained a Maître em Educação Musical from the Université Toulouse Le Mirail (Toulouse, France). She furthered her piano studies with Prof. Minako Fujita (Ueno Gakkuen, Tokyo, Japan). In 2003 he completed his Master's dissertation in Music Education (UFRGS) and in 2007, his Doctoral thesis in Music Education (UFRGS) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Liane Hentschke. In the period 2008-2010 she did postdoctoral studies in interpretative practices (UFRGS), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Cristina Capparelli Gerling. From 2011 to 2012 she was a keyboard teacher at FUNDARTE. She is currently a professor at the Institute of Arts at UFRGS. In research, her area of expertise focuses on the interconnection between instrumental performance, musical knowledge and strategies of emotional expression.
