Pedagogical adaptation from the sub-dimensions of Musical Intelligence

Abstract

This study, framed within Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, addresses the limited pedagogical application of musical intelligence through a functional typology that connects educational and compositional theory and practice. Using a qualitative, theoretical-analytical, and exploratory methodology, literature was reviewed in indexed databases, and teaching experience in composition was integrated. Content analysis identified five subdimensions of musical intelligence—melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, timbral, and morphological—that describe specific modes of organizing musical language and guide teaching strategies adapted to different learning profiles. Based on contemporary neuroscientific, psychological, and pedagogical sources, the proposed model offers a functional framework for understanding musical intelligence and supporting teaching, assessment, and creation. While it provides useful conceptual tools, it requires empirical validation.

  • Rafael Guzmán Barrios, International University of La Rioja, Spain

    He holds a Doctorate in Art Studies and is currently the Academic Director of the Master's Program in Music Pedagogy at the International University of La Rioja (UNIR). He was a tenured professor at the University of the Arts in Havana, where he served on its Permanent Scientific Degree Examination Board and coordinated its Master's Program in Music (2013-2016). He taught at the University of the Arts in Ecuador and also coordinated its Master's Program in Musical Composition and Sound Arts (2018-2023). With 25 years of experience as a teacher-artist, he has taught numerous courses, written more than a dozen articles, and in the artistic field, he composed music for the ICAIC Animation Studios (approximately 100 animated shorts and one feature film), composed music for documentaries at the production company Mundo Latino (9 documentaries), and created original works and arrangements for the Teatro de la Luna Group.

  • Vicenta Gisbert Caudeli, Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain

    Doctor of Education, Bachelor of Arts in Oboe, Master of Science in Neuroscience for Teachers. Accredited as a Contracted PhD by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), Research Six-Year Period 2018-2023. Currently Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Research and Innovation in Music Pedagogy and professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Interfaculty Department of Music, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Secretary of the University Center for Studies in Education in Diversity (ULL). Member of the Music and Education Research Group (UAM) and collaborates with the following groups: IMETIC (University of A Coruña), ETIE (ULPGC), INCISO (UNIR), NEUROMOTRICITY (University of Alicante), and GIED (ULL). Principal Investigator of project 101174457 — EU-CODE — CREA-CULT-2024-COOP, funded by Erasmus+ with €200,000. Collaborator on the Erasmus+ project “Master to Educate in Diversity and Social Inclusion.” She is also involved in the Erasmus+ project “UPDating university curricula on Early Intervention” (UPDEIT), project 2021-1-MK01-KA220-HED-000022981 (2022-2024). She has undertaken national and international research stays (Bogotá, Costa Rica, Chile, Portugal, Alicante, A Coruña, etc.), presented at Higher Conservatories of Music, international congresses, conferences, and seminars, and served on scientific committees. Her research interests include Music Education focused on Social Transformation, Attention to Diversity, Inclusion, and Values ​​Education.
